DAVIDsTEA Inc, a North American tea merchant, has announced it is increasing its donation programme efforts for the third consecutive year. Every purchase made during December at DAVIDsTEA stores and on its website will equal one cup of tea donated to Canadian frontline heroes until the two million milestone is reached.

During the pandemic, DAVIDsTEA began amplifying donation efforts as a way of supporting frontline heroes. Groups of essential workers, such as health care professionals, senior care communities, and education centers, were nominated by customers and employees alike to benefit from the programme. Local Canadian communities from coast to coast that have benefited from the programme thus far include BC’s Mamas for Mamas, Montreal’s Shriners Hospital for Children, and the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation, among many others.

Having reached its initial one million cups donation milestone in 2022, DAVIDsTEA has set a new goal of reaching two million cups by the end of 2023.

“At DAVIDsTEA we are humbled to continue supporting the hard-working frontline community and spreading joy through tea. We are thrilled to be so close to reaching our two million milestone and engaging our customers on this journey to help us reach this goal and continue offering comfort through tea, one cup at a time,” said Sarah Segal, chief executive officer and chief brand officer, DAVIDsTEA. “Looking beyond the two million cup goal, DAVIDsTEA will expand its existing donation programmes. In addition to an annual 500K cup donation goal within local communities in Canada, the company will also sustain its Impact Fund, which supports local and global impact initiatives, such as the Nepal Clean Water project.”

National Volunteer Week is celebrated each April to recognise the impact volunteers make in US communities. This year, the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation is marking the occasion with a $100,000 donation to support nearly 100 Feeding America member food banks in communities Dunkin’ serves.

The donations are being made in honour of the Foundation’s annual Week of Joy volunteer event, which brings together Dunkin’ franchisees and restaurant team members to volunteer at Feeding America member food banks to make a difference in the fight against hunger. After limiting in-person volunteer events this year as a result of the pandemic, the Foundation has opted to instead provide impactful grants to the 93 Feeding America member food banks and eight other food banks and food pantries where Dunkin’ franchisees and team members have volunteered in the past.

“This donation to Feeding America is dedicated to our past Week of Joy volunteers and volunteer sites, including all of our franchisees and team members who are so committed to the communities where they live and work,” said Kari McHugh, executive director of the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation. “While we cannot volunteer together in-person this year, we hope we’ll be back in action next year to help fight hunger in our communities. In the meantime, this donation will help families who are facing hunger now.”

Because hunger and food insecurity remain high for families across the United States more than a year into the Covid-19 crisis, supporting local food banks is more important than ever, says Dunkin’.

“Feeding America and member food banks across the country are working hard to meet the needs of communities during this health and economic crisis,” said Lauren Biedron, vice president of Corporate Partnerships at Feeding America. “We’re grateful to the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation for helping to provide meals to children and families who need them most.”

The donations are part of the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation’s 15-year partnership with Feeding America to help kids facing hunger. They are just one example of how the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation has supported health and hunger-relief organizations during the pandemic. In addition to awarding three rounds of emergency grants totaling $3.25 million, Dunkin’, the Foundation, and Dunkin’ franchisees have also delivered more than 100,000 cups of free coffee to more than 300 hospitals, food banks, and emergency sites across the US. In addition, the Foundation introduced the Hero Recharge programme, a first-of-its-kind outdoor adventure programme designed to help nurses and other healthcare professionals cope with significant traumatic stress resulting from being on the frontlines of the Covid-19 pandemic.

A significant part of Dunkin’s coffee leadership has been built upon a deep commitment to sustainability, protecting the coffee it sources and the coffee farmers it depends on. The company has recently shared some of the latest ways it is continuing its commitment to coffee sustainability in 2021, furthering ongoing efforts to make a meaningful difference in the lives and livelihoods of coffee farmers and producers, while enhancing coffee-growing regions throughout the world for generations to come.

To kick off the year, Dunkin’ has donated $380,000 to several important and inspiring organisations with missions focused on coffee sustainability, including:

One Tree Planted: Dunkin’ has teamed up with One Tree Planted, an environmental non-profit that’s helping the environment by planting trees in countries around the world.

Through a $200,000 donation from Dunkin’, by the end of 2021, One Tree Planted will plant a total of 200,000 trees throughout Honduras and Guatemala, including areas that are essential to regional environmental stability, increased rural farmer productivity, and the livelihoods of thousands of people. This tree-planting programme will create significant benefits to these regions, according to Dunkin’, including improving air and water quality, improving soil health, increasing wildlife biodiversity, and providing jobs in local communities.

Sustainable Coffee Challenge: Since 2018, Dunkin’ has been part of The Sustainable Coffee Challenge, a collaborative effort led by Conservation International, of companies, governments, NGOs, research institutions, and others, aligned around a common goal of transitioning the coffee sector to be fully sustainable. For 2021, Dunkin’ has committed $110,000 to become a premier-level sponsor of The Sustainable Coffee Challenge, continuing its work within the organisation to make coffee the world’s first fully sustainable agricultural product.

Dunkin’ is also making a $10,000 donation to the Sustainable Coffee Challenge’s Labor Action Network Initiative in Brazil. Funding supports Rainforest Alliance’s efforts to build the capacity of auditors and technical support teams in Brazil to ensure timely identification of any social violations.

Dunkin’s sustainability manager, Danielle Wood, has recently been appointed as one of the youngest-ever members of the Sustainable Coffee Challenge Advisory Council.

Disaster Relief Efforts in Nicaragua and Honduras: Following the recent devastation of Hurricanes Eta and Iota in Nicaragua and Honduras, Dunkin’ is supporting these vital coffee-growing countries with two donations.

The company has provided $10,000 to Seeds for Progress Foundation, a nonprofit organisation that contributes to the social development and sustainable economic growth of Nicaraguan rural communities. These funds will be allocated to a Hurricane relief fund championed by Mercon Coffee Group to assist coffee-growing communities that were severely affected by Hurricanes Eta and Iota.

Dunkin’ is also donating $10,000 to World Vision, a humanitarian and emergency relief organisation helping vulnerable children, families, and their communities overcome poverty and injustice.

Partnership for Gender Equity’s Virtual Learning Journey: Finally, Dunkin’ is allocating $40,000 toward providing its coffee suppliers in Guatemala and Colombia with The Partnership for Gender Equity’s Virtual Learning Journey. This unique online workshop series helps advance gender equity by providing 10 producer organisations with a better understanding of gendered challenges and opportunities, and identifying areas of opportunity for targeted action plans and solutions.

Dunkin’ says it will continue to work toward responsible coffee sourcing, transparency, and conservation, and will provide updates on its efforts throughout the year.

In recognition of Giving Tuesday, Steeped Coffee, known for its simple award-winning brewing method that has become the standard for single-serve specialty coffee, has announced the launch of its Packs for Good programme (steepedcoffee.com/packsforgood). The new ongoing Packs for Good initiative helps support a growing list of charities through partner pages on the Steeped Coffee website using a giving code, where Steeped gives back 20% of all sales as a donation to each non-profit to support their mission.

To kick off Packs for Good, Steeped Coffee is shining light on the current growing hunger crisis in America affecting by donating to Feeding America. To show support, customers can use the code FEEDINGAMERICA at checkout and Steeped will donate 20% of total sales to Feeding America and its member food banks.

“We know that access to nutritious food is essential for a healthy lifestyle. Yet many people across the country may not know where they will find their next meal and the pandemic further exacerbates this issue,” said Blake Thompson, chief supply chain officer at Feeding America.

As the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief and food rescue organisation, Feeding America is a network of 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programmes that provides food assistance to more than 40 million people annually. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, Feeding America estimates that more than 50 million people could be food insecure in the United States this year, including 17 million children.

Steeped, Inc, a Benefit Corporation and Certified B Corp has a double bottom line of Purpose Beyond Profits. “We are always looking for ways Steeped can serve as a positive force for good,” said Josh Wilbur, CEO and founder of Steeped Coffee. “Packs for Good lets us generously give with 20% to meet the moment now and into the future as a vehicle for other organisations.”

Steeped Coffee is one of the only brewing methods that doesn’t require a machine, grinder, or special equipment to prepare premium coffee. Brewed similar to tea, Steeped Packs only need water to make a fresh cup of barista approved coffee. Each pack contains hand-roasted ground coffee that is nitro sealed for freshness in fully compostable packaging. The company’s proprietary brewing method bypasses any risks of using a communal coffee pot and has quickly been adopted by hundreds of the nation’s top coffee roasting companies and brands.

“There is no doubt we’ll never forget these times, but it’s what we do for others, even the small things, that will be remembered,” says Wilbur. “As a startup in these crazy times, Steeped is looking to do anything within reach to make a difference and encourage others to do the same. We know that every small act will all add up to make a big difference.”

In March, Steeped also launched the “Stay Home, Stay Steeped” campaign to encourage customers to stay home by providing free home delivery on all coffee, cups, kettles, and gear. The offer has been extended indefinitely and aims to help those adjusting to new rituals at home, and routines while working from home.

In April, Steeped, Inc also launched “You Give, We Give” (steepedcoffee.com/yougivewegive),  a campaign to help fuel and lift the spirits of frontline doctors, nurses, firefighters, police, and first responders as they battle the Covid-19 crisis. “You Give, We Give” invited people to gift Steeped Coffee Packs to those on the front lines, with Steeped matching all gifts, pack for pack, and providing free weekly deliveries directly to the hospitals, stations, and clinics where they’re needed most. The programme was featured on the Ellen Show as well as by several celebrities and over 70,000 packs have been donated across the country.

The National Pediatric Cancer Foundation (NPCF) taps into the passion and creativity of the coffee industry for Brewing Funds the Cure – a lighthearted initiative designed to raise serious awareness and critical funds for pediatric cancer research. Kicking off this month (October), craft brewers from states around the nation will once again handcraft a signature philanthropic beer, Rising Hope, with 100% of proceeds benefiting NPCF.

New for the 2020 campaign, a signature Hope Roast coffee blend by Kahwa Coffee Roasters will also be available for caffeine-lovers, with 43% of net proceeds donated to NPCF – serving as a reminder that 43 children in the US are still diagnosed with cancer each day.

In 2019, the Rising Hope brew initiative had partners in 23 states and raised over $125,000. In 2020, the NPCF has partnered with breweries in more than 30 states nationwide and hopes to increase funds raised for life-saving research and treatments with the coffee community now on board. NPCF’s new collaboration with Kahwa Coffee Roasters – one of the largest independent coffee roasters in Florida – just released Hope Roast in September, expanding the Brewing Funds the Cure partnership programme to include coffeehouses, shops and online ordering.

Another opportunity for the coffee industry to get involved includes the Tap Handle Program, which allows coffeehouses to donate a percentage of sales per pour from the blend of their choice to NPCF for a week, month, etc. Additional ways to partner include adopting the NPCF’s sticker programme or by creating custom collateral to support the cause. Businesses in the coffee industry are invited to help support the NPCF find less toxic and more targeted treatments for kids – and ultimately one step closer to finding a cure. To learn more about collaborative partnerships with NPCF, visit: NationalPCF.org.

As additional partners join the philanthropic programme, all Brewing Funds the Cure partners will continually be updated on the virtual map at: brewingfundsthecure.org.

With historic wildfires ravaging the western United States, Boulder, CO based coffee company Wild Barn Coffee, led by co-founders Jenny Verrochi and Alyssa Evans, is dedicating 100% of its profits of Wild Barn Nitro Cold Brew Coffee on National Coffee Day today (29 September), to the GlobalGiving.org California Wildfire Relief Fund.

With 6-packs, 12-packs and cases all available online at www.wildbarncoffee.com, coffee lovers and adventurists from coast to coast can get a boost by helping raise awareness and funds for the urgent needs of first responders and the communities that they are protecting.

The GlobalGiving California Wildfire Relief Fund supports firefighters and provides emergency supplies like food, water, and medicine to people in need. The fund will remain open to provide long-term assistance. As the location and severity of the fires fluctuates, so will the response to ensure aid gets where it is most needed. All donations to this fund will exclusively support communities impacted by wildfires.

“Celebrating the great outdoors is in the DNA of our coffee,” notes Jenny Verrochi. “It was created for adventurists and those that spend time in the wilderness, so we knew that National Coffee Day should be one of giving and supporting our western neighbors. We hope that we can help by calling attention to this emergency by donating 100% of our profits on National Coffee Day, September 29, 2020 to this important fund.”

“We created Wild Barn Coffee to capture the spirit of the Rockies, but we know that the Rocky Mountain spirit exists everywhere that people celebrate the great outdoors,” adds Alyssa Evans. “This is our way of sounding the alarm to our cold brew coffee drinkers so that everyone can help with this historic battle.”

A reported 72% of Portland’s homeless population report a chronic disabling condition, while the average life expectancy of a homeless person is only 42 years.

Hospitals and care systems can be nearly impossible to navigate, resulting in many homeless individuals falling through the cracks—even before Covid-19 created a new healthcare crisis. The volunteer medical teams of non-profit Portland Street Medicine is reportedly solving this problem by regularly visiting and helping the community with food, emergency medical care, and essential supplies like toiletries, tampons, and even TriMet tickets. If clients need it, the charity will also connect them with emergency care and same-day services.

Local coffee businesses Catalyst Trade and Extracto Coffee Roasters have teamed up to raise money to benefit Portland Street Medicine. “We wanted to really contribute to a team that’s providing help on the ground level,” said Catalyst Trade CEO, Emily McIntyre.

Extracto and Catalyst Trade have been partners for years, and Extracto owner Chris Brady has traveled with the Catalyst team to Ethiopia several times. A majority Ethiopian-owned business, Catalyst Trade is an importing company intensely involved with the communities where its coffee is grown, as well as where it is consumed.

Extracto Coffee is an anchor of NE Portland, with owners Chris and Celeste Brady providing a cafe and wholesale experience that, even during Covid-19, is its own ‘unique community pocket’.

The two companies have started donating (as of 17 July) 100% of the proceeds from sales of their Ethiopian Washed Dimtu Guji coffee, which will be available through Extracto’s website (for free delivery throughout most of Portland’s Metro area). The companies estimate they may be able to raise around $11,000 for Portland Street Medicine.

“It was important to us that we donate a coffee that’s high quality and community-based,” said McIntyre. “We want to give our best to help Portland Street Medicine with its mission, and we hope that our fellow Portlanders and coffee professionals will support us to make it count.”

The coffee will cost $20 for a 12oz bag and can be ordered via: extractocoffee.com/shop/ethiopiagujidimtu.

The theme of this year’s Loneliness Awareness Week (15 – 19 June) is about ‘understanding loneliness one conversation at a time’, and UK charity Send a Cow is encouraging people to use this week as an excuse to catch up (virtually) over coffee (or tea) with friends, family, or someone who may be alone during lockdown.

Send a Cow says, in the spirit of Ubuntu, an African word that means ‘I am, because you are’: we are all connected, and loneliness can be overcome.

Send a Cow is encouraging people to hold their own African Coffee Break, and the charity even has a free playlist, coffee quiz and tasting notes available to add to the occasion.

Claire, a coffee grower in Rwanda, joined a Send a Cow project. She said: I chose to grow coffee because it is one of the good cash crops in this region. I get money from coffee and no longer struggle to pay for my health insurance… working with Send a Cow has made us popular and it’s very good when people pass by and see our produce, then they [want] to know how we do this, and ask for help and advice.”

The sustainable development charity are making sure that, despite the coronavirus outbreak, small-scale farmers get the support they need to end hunger and poverty – people participating in the African Coffee Break are encouraged to make a contribution towards the charity, to help Rwandan coffee farmers like Claire. £100 of donations can go towards helping 10 families with seeds, tools and training.

Rebecca Parford, head of Public Fundraising at Send a Cow, said: “When we launched the African Coffee Break we saw some brilliant events, and there’s nothing to stop people recreating the same vibrant events online, from the comfort of their own home. We’ve put together some tips to give people a great way to connect, wherever they’re based.”

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, instead of face-to-face events, the charity behind Loneliness Awareness Week (Marmalade Trust) is also hosting a virtual campaign called ‘One Less Lonely Voice’ with the aim of empowering everyone to understand loneliness one conversation at a time, so people can help themselves and others to manage feelings of loneliness.

The Brew Company has joined the UK’s battle against Covid-19 by providing 100,000 units of its innovative brew-in-the-bag Coffeebrewer, Teabrewer and Herbbrewer packs to the Salute the NHS campaign at cost price. The campaign is the largest ever mobilisation of the private sector in support of the NHS frontline.

The company’s products will be included in meal packs being delivered to NHS staff at 26 Covid-19 hospitals across the country.

Salute the NHS was established by British businessman Ron Dennis CBE, best known for his former role as a major shareholder, CEO, chairman and founder of The McLaren Technology Group, and his daughter Dr Charlotte Hall.

Together they are determined to deliver one million meals to frontline NHS staff in three months and have already delivered more than 500,000 meal packs with partner Tesco, providing all products and ingredients for free. Unilever, the third FTSE 100 listed company involved, is also providing 500,000 personal care packs including Dove, Vaseline, Simple and Radox products.

Founder of Salutethenhs.org, Ron Dennis CBE, commented: “We are delivering food packs where they are needed most – the epicentre of the war effort against Covid-19. “We’re all in this together so I am specifically appealing to the business community and business leaders to get involved by supporting salutethenhs.org. to achieve our ambitious target.”

Ulrik Rasmussen, CEO of The Brew Company, said: “I have the greatest admiration for the vision and determination of the Salute the NHS campaign and wanted to help as I have lived and studied in the UK. I believe in the importance of a rich cup of tea or coffee – providing a ‘Zen moment’ during a long and stressful day. I hope our contribution goes a small way to conveying my gratitude to the UK’s incredible NHS workers.”

Coffee companies around the UK have rallied together in an effort to support key workers fighting coronavirus. Members of the British Coffee Association (BCA) and the wider industry have donated over 900 coffee machines and sufficient pods, beans and blends to make nearly 2 million cups of quality coffee for NHS staff working in hospitals up and down the country in an effort to fuel the vital work of doctors, nurses and care staff on the front line.

The initiative comes as part of the NHS Coffee Appeal, an appeal set up to provide much needed hot drinks to hospital staff across the country. To date, thousands of bags of coffee beans, pods, roast and ground coffee, filters, and espresso machines for those who need the extra boost, have been donated to NHS Trust hospitals and NHS teams nationally.

Professor Marcel Levi, chief executive of University College London Hospitals, said: “We have received 45 machines and thousands of capsules of quality coffee. These donations make a huge difference to our staff and we have distributed the machines to all Covid wards, A&E wards, and ITUs. We are extremely grateful for this fantastic initiative and to the companies and individuals that have supported us so much so far.”

Paul Rooke, executive director at the British Coffee Association, said: “When the NHS Coffee Appeal contacted us about this initiative, we didn’t hesitate to get our members involved. The work our doctors and nurses are doing deserves more than coffee but if it means they can enjoy a decent hot drink that helps them through a busy shift then we are thrilled to help out in any way we can. Our members have rallied to support the NHS Coffee Appeal, and several have also made their own donations directly to the NHS. To date this has meant almost 2 million cups of quality coffee for NHS staff.”

Over 30 NHS hospitals across the country, including Barts NHS Trust, Croydon University Hospital, Ipswich Hospital, Basingstoke Hospital, and Peterborough Hospital, have received coffee donations to date, and will continue to do so to support them through the coronavirus pandemic. Donations to hospitals have included over 900 brand new coffee machines as well as bags of roast and ground coffee, coffee capsules, ready to drink americano and espresso coffee cans, filter coffee and plenty of coffee filters, to make almost 2 million cups of coffee.

Edouard de Guitaut from the NHS Coffee Appeal added: “We are really heartened by these amazing donations, from individuals, but especially from the extremely generous members of the British Coffee Association who have given massive boost to the wellbeing of nurses and doctors working in critical care wards. But many more machines now need to be donated by individuals and companies, so we can ensure that every ward across the country that asks for help, receives a machine and some coffee.”

Further from home, members of the BCA have also been providing assistance to coffee farmers in origin countries. With a number of countries entering the vital coffee harvest season, members with close links to growers have been quick to ensure measures are in place to secure the safety of workers during the pandemic. Nespresso and Taylors, for example, have put in place emergency programmes to support the farmers producing coffee, which includes funding to enable specific interventions such as tests, hygiene kits and food provisions.

Rooke added: “Without our coffee farmers, there would be no coffee. It is a critical time to protect this year’s crop so it’s important that we keep coffee farmers and workers across the supply chain in origin countries at the front of our minds and ensure we are doing everything we can to support the work they are doing and maintain the safety, security and livelihoods of these workers. The UK has had good supply levels of coffee throughout the coronavirus pandemic and the industry has worked hard to ensure this will not change in the future.”

In recognition of National Hospital Week from 10-16 May, Keurig Dr Pepper (KDP) is encouraging consumers to express their thanks and appreciation to healthcare workers on social media. For every post of gratitude that includes the hashtag #FuelingtheFrontline, the company will provide a cup of coffee to a hospital worker (up to one million cups).

The campaign is part of KDP’s Fueling the Frontline initiative that has donated Keurig brewers and coffee to thousands of break rooms in more than 350 hospitals across the country, with more than two million cups of coffee and other beverages donated since the Covid-19 crisis began. In April, a two-week Keurig mobile truck tour visited hospitals in the Dallas Fort-Worth area near the company’s Plano, Texas co-headquarters location, providing hospital workers and local first responders a moment outside to enjoy a cup of coffee and other beverages provided by Keurig Dr Pepper.

“We are proud to support the healthcare community tirelessly working on the frontline of this pandemic to care for those in need. This campaign provides an opportunity to share our gratitude for their courage and sacrifice. We are honoured to donate coffee and beverages, giving these brave medical workers a moment to relax and recharge before heading back into the fight,” said KDP chairman and CEO, Bob Gamgort.

To launch the campaign, Keurig Dr Pepper unveiled a video across its Keurig, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters and Laughing Man social media channels, recognising frontline healthcare workers for their resilience and compassion during these challenging times.

The company has also recognised its own frontline employees, who continue to manufacture, distribute and restock retail shelves, with financial incentives and enhanced benefits, as well as providing them with a free Keurig brewer and coffee as a gesture of appreciation. KDP also enabled its office employees to gift a Keurig brewer and coffee to an essential worker of their choosing.

Melitta USA has announced that it will be donating 100% of profits from the sale of its pour-over products from April through June on www.melitta.com to Go Fund Bean, a virtual tipping platform to help baristas facing lost wages and unemployment as a result of Covid-19. The organisation has officially been granted non-profit status as it rushes to support coffee shop workers facing store closures or reduction in income as result of locations shifting to to-go only models.

Melitta is the company founded by the inventor of pour-over coffee, Melitta Bentz. The company’s donation is a fitting gesture as baristas around the world serve coffee based on her invention every day, but due to shelter-in-place orders and other measures meant to counter the spread of Covid-19, many have been unable to do so.

“We’re incredibly grateful for Go Fund Bean and other organisations that are stepping in to provide assistance to an integral part of the coffee community that is experiencing significant impact from Covid-19,” said Chris Hillman, vice president of marketing, Melitta USA.

“It’s great to see the industry banding together to help those in need, and Melitta is proud to be a part of that effort.”

With the slogan, “coffee people helping coffee people,” Go Fund Bean was started as a crowdfunding platform and evolved into a virtual tip jar which allows people to add their favourite coffee shop to the online list and donate money to that specific location or any others already on the site. Since its formation, Go Fund Bean has quickly grown to include over 250 coffee shops, primarily located in the US.

“With many coffee shop workers facing immediate and significant financial troubles as a result of the pandemic, something had to be done and done fast,” said Adam JacksonBey, founder of Go Fund Bean.

“Go Fund Bean is a great way for people, and businesses such as Melitta, to help those less fortunate during this unprecedented time when they need it most.”

200 Degrees Coffee and members of the public have donated acetate to the Queens Medical Centre hospital (QMC) in Nottingham, UK, to help alleviate the shortage of protective visors for NHS staff working on the front-line of the Covid-19 pandemic.

With the NHS under huge pressure and limited resources of personal protective equipment (PPE), specialist medical designers in the Orthotics department at QMC turned their attentions from insole production for foot conditions, to the production of vital protective equipment.

200 Degrees Coffee initially bought 1,000 acetate sheets and sent out a plea to the public for further donations. The people of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire brought the total to approximately 10,000 acetate sheets which were collated at 200 Degrees’ roast house on Meadow Lane, before being delivered to the QMC.

Co-founder of 200 Degrees Coffee, Rob Darby, said: “In the current Covid-19 crisis the NHS are working at the coalface and all efforts are being made to limit the spread, and to help support our NHS and the capacity at its hospitals.

“The NHS is doing an incredible job of looking after us all during this pandemic and when we heard that they had limited resources on PPE, we wanted to help. The team at our local hospital, QMC, are doing an amazing job to create these visors in-house and we hope our donation can make a real difference in the effort to save lives.

“A big thank you to all those who supported us and donated acetate sheets, it was brilliant to see such a huge response from other people who just want to help anyway they can.”

The specialist coffee roasters also delivered 50 cafetieres – each with a kilo of freshly ground coffee – to the Nottingham Hospitals Charity, which are now being distributed between NHS staff rooms at QMC and City Hospital in Nottingham.

Nigel Gregory, director of development at Nottingham Hospitals Charity, said: “Boosting the morale of our front-line staff is a hugely important job for us at the charity, so we are absolutely delighted to be able to provide teams across the hospital with these donations of 200 Degrees coffee and cafetieres. We love the fact that local companies are helping their local hospitals. The ability to quickly and easily make some great coffee will do wonders for our hardworking staff. Thanks to all involved.”

It is reportedly a team-wide approach at 200 Degrees with finance director, Stephen Fern, working with his team mates at football club Bingham FC and the local community to raise £6,000. The sum was raised over the course of just four days and it has been used to purchase 4,200 protective visors for the QMC and other healthcare providers across Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.

A further three million euros will be given to the La Stampa – “Specchio dei Tempi” Foundation, an organisation which has taken immediate action in three areas: providing hospitals with new equipment and medical supplies for intensive care and first aid, as well as advanced rapid testing equipment at the “Amedeo di Savoia” Hospital in Turin, issuing free sanitising kits on request to schools in Turin; and delivering basic necessities to the elderly in physical and economic hardship.

In the wake of the coronavirus crisis in Italy, the Simonelli Group has arranged a donation for the acquirement of a respiratory intubation machine for the intensive care unit of Camerino Hospital.

The Camerino Hospital is the first of its kind in the province of Macerata, which is also where the Simonelli Group headquarters are situated.

“In this challenging health situation, every one of us needs to do their part”, commented Nando Ottavi, president of Simonelli Group. “The Company shares the need to be even closer to the community. We need to do what is possible to sustain the great efforts the public health services are doing along with the many individuals that work every single day with dedication and sacrifice, saving thousands of lives.”

The Simonelli Group has a strong connection to Camerino, the city in which the Group began its research projects that evolved into innovative technologies for coffee extraction.

Fabio Ceccarani, CEO of Simonelli Group, said: “In collaboration with the University of Camerino, we created value to allow coffee shop chains and baristas worldwide to make high-quality drinks. At this moment duty calls us to offer value to our community to strengthen and support the Hospital of Camerino, and to do so, ensure they have the necessary equipment to cope with the emergency and save lives.”

In response to the current extreme health emergency, the Simonelli Group has adopted strict precaution procedures and practices for all its employees, which are stipulated in the Group’s “Covid19 insurance” policy, offering concrete support to each employee in the case of contagion.

Nestlé AG has been working since beginning of the Covid-19 crisis to provide local relief efforts in the communities around the globe where the multinational company operates. Nestlé has offered support to charities, medical institutions and other organisations, and has worked closely with physicians to develop new tailored Covid-19 medical nutrition and supplement treatment protocols.

Nestlé also donated to food banks and food delivery organisations to support people in need as well as its business partners throughout its supply chains.

Building on these humanitarian efforts, Nestlé announced that it is joining forces with the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in response to its emergency appeal.

The IFRC is a strong and trusted global partner of Nestlé, with unmatched presence and expertise in providing first aid, emergency response and epidemic control. As part of the emergency response, the IFRC is providing immediate help to strengthen health care systems, where the need is greatest. Nestlé and IFRC will work together in four ways to provide urgent help for emergency services and caregivers and strengthen healthcare systems. Together, Nestlé and IFRC will:

  • Donate food, medical nutrition products and bottled water to bring relief to those most affected by the pandemic.
  • Deploy available logistics capacities from our out-of-home business to support the needs of the IFRC in various countries.
  • Donate CHF 10 million (USD $10.4 million) for immediate deployment in countries where it is most needed.

I am deeply impressed and humbled by what our team has accomplished in order to support individuals and communities affected by this crisis. The Covid-19 pandemic is a global problem and consequently we are offering help on the ground everywhere, drawing on our extensive presence and experience in 187 countries,” said Mark Schneider, CEO of Nestlé AG.

“In addition, we give our full support to those who are fighting tirelessly against the spread of the virus, every day. This is where our trusted and longstanding partnership with the IFRC comes in. We applaud the relentless efforts of the millions of Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers and admire their determination to make a difference on the ground.”
